Winter/ Recent Favorites

Hi everyone!

Today I would like to share some of my favorite beauty products that I've been using!  Hopefully you'll take some of my reccommendations and try these products out yourself.

This L'Occitane Ultra-Matte Face Fluid is for moisturizing, oil control and mattifying the face.  On days that I do not have time for foundation, I put this on for an airbrushed, velvety complexion.  I have oily/combination skin so this product works well and it never breaks me out.  I bought this product as Christmas gifts to friends who do not wear foundation and might want a velvet-y matte finish.  I think this product is gentle enough to not break people out.

The Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed is my favorite blush and I've only been using it for 2 days! It was from my colleague, Iaisha, armadastyle-i.blogspot.com for Christmas!  Thanks!!  I love the natural flush it gives me.  I love wearing this over the L'occitane ultra-mattifying face fluid without any foundation.  It's a matte nude-y, pink color and I think it'll look amazing  on most light/medium skin tones. It's also very long lasting!

This Revlon eyeshadow quad, Lavender Meadow was on sale at CVS and I picked it up for under $2!  These shades of purple are great for any eye color and it's frosty/ lilac shades are perfect for a winter eye make up look.  You can even use this to create a purple smokey eye look.

These Physicians Formula Gel eye-liner for Hazel Eyes are just amazing!  I use my Tokidoki donut-girl eyeliner brush to apply this and it goes on very smoothly.  It comes in Brown, Black and Purple and the fun part is, it's actually stackable, so you won't lose them. (or if you do, you lose all three of them together LOL)

Please feel free to comment and ask me more questions about the products I mentioned!  And let me know if you would like me to do more of my favorites at the end of the month!

Fish Tail Braid is Trending

These Disney ladies rocked fish tail braids!  I think it's a fun, cute and young look to start off the new years!  Fish tail braids can make you look a bit more pulled together even if you're lounging at home in PJ's !

Jewelmint Silver Swan + Michael Kors watch

Hi all!

Today I will be sharing my favorite new accessories!  I got this simply, yet beautiful watch from Michael Kors, I believe it's the silver mini runway, I forgot the name and I couldn't find the exact one online.  I bought it at the store on SoHo.  I like small dials and simple bracelet style for watches.  I was debating between this one or a more bling-y one, or perhaps a rose gold one.  Jen of  Frmheadtotoe, frmheadtotoe.com blogged about her Michael Kors Rose Gold Blair watch and I absolutely wished I had gotten hers instead! However, I decided to just stick with mine because it goes so well with the Jewelmint Silver Swan bracelet!  It's great for everyday wear and versatile enough for bracelet/mix and matching.  I'm definitely going to get the gooden goose (if it gets re-released again) on Jewelmint because I absoluely love this silver one!  I think they should make a rose gold one!!

Last Minute Affordable Gift Ideas

I'm not a  believer in gift cards. I really think it's the thought that counts!  I don't splurge on expensive gifts.  I really take the time to pick out gifts for each individual person.  I don't buy gifts just to get it over with.  I want my gift to be appreciated and put into good use!  I hope you find my ideas helpful!

1.  If you're still on the East Coast, it's not too late to order PIDA, Armada-style's gel exfoliator.  If I was a stylist, I would buy this product (only $25 at wholesale price!) and give it to every female I know!  It's the BEST facial exfoliator that's not too harsh and will not strip your skin's moisture.  It has improved my skin tone so much that I barely need any foundation anymore.  I can tell you for a fact that all your female friends will run to your salon for another bottle when they have used it all up!  This is also a great gift for all the teens/ men in your life!  My teenage brother loves it and it has drastically improved his acne condition!

2. Coin purses/ wallet

Everyone needs a little luxury in their handbag!  I always pay attention to details.  I always notice the type of wallet/ coin purse the lady in front of me pulls out of her bag when she's paying.  And it is likely, I have a little luxury envy.  I should just not buy what I'm standing in line to buy and save up to buy a nice presentable coin purse/ wallet!  I love Kate Spade & Michael Kors!  Not tooo expensive, but classy & fun at the same time.

3. Blush

Give your girlfriends universally flattering blush such as Nars Orgasm or Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush. You really can't go wrong!  My personal favorite is Tarte, Exposed, a nude blush that can double as a contouring shade/ bronzer for an allover, matte glow.

Exposed

Park Avenue Princess

4. Perfume Rollerball

I'm absolutely loving American Eagle's collection!  My favorite is Bohemian, a clean, fresh and slighty fruity scent that's absolutely irresistable! It's more affordable than the full size perfume.

5. Jewelry storage

One of my favorite type of videos to youtube during my spare time are makeup organization videos.  I came across this awesome jewelry organizer on Asos.  On sale now!  I cannot imagine any woman not wanting this:

Health secret: Blackberries

Today's post will be a spoiler the next e-CURE newsletter!

Blackberries are one of my favorite fruits! One health advice I would always give to my friends is: Have fruits for dessert instead of pastries or cake!  Growing up, my mother always gave me fruits.  Coming from a Chinese background, my mother was never a fan of serving cookies or cakes or ice-cream.

Blackberries, or any type of berries are packed with antioxidants that's great for your health.  And hair.  In next month's eCURE newsletter, my colleague Iaisha of, http://armadastyle-i.blogspot.com/, will be talking about how M-3.2 works as an antioxidant for hair!  Stay tune for more hair and heath tips.

Birchbox: Dry Shampoo + Updo Hair Tutorial

I love watching Birchbox youtube videos.  Birchbox is a monthly subscription service company.  For only $10 a month, Birchbox will send you a box full of awesome beauty samples!   They also do youtube tutorials to demostrate how to use those products.  The samples are usually worth more than the price you're paying for so if you're a beauty junkie who loves to try new products but afraid of investing in a full-sized product right away, then Birchbox may be an option for you!

I personally don't wash my hair daily, so this tutorial will come in very handy for me!

Headband

How adorable is this headband from Topshop?  I think headband make great winter accessories!  I'm obsessed with bows for the holiday season!

It's bad to wash your hair daily so I wash mine every other day.  Headbands are great if you cannot stand a day old unwashed hair but still want to look chic and cute!  If I get enough comments, I might just head to Topshop to grab this headband!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hello all!

I hope all of my devoted readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  My family isn't really Americanized when it comes to holidays so we do not celebrate Thanksgiving traditionally.  Coming from a Chinese culture, my family is pretty family-oriented all year round.  On Thanksgiving night, all of my family members dispersed to celebrate Thanksgiving with their friends' family.  Unfortunately this year, I was home alone with my mom and she made me a bowl of noodles:

Very healthy and it didn't take more than 10 minutes to make!

In my next post I will be uploading my Black Friday haul so stay tune!

Transitioning Fall to Winter

Right now, it's that time of year when the weather is a bit crazy and cannot make up its mind to stay warm or cold.  Transitioning from fall to winter is a bit tricky and the sunshine may be a bit deceiving.  Here are some of my tips to staying warm without saying goodbye to fall outfits:

1. Light jacket:  I love pea-coats and trenchcoats!

2. Scarves: Great way to dress up any outfit and to keep you warm!
Wendy is my inspiration!  She's the queen of scarves.  Check out her blog!

Absolutely loving Kim Kardashian's scarf and her shades!
3. Knit/Funky Leggings
I absolutely love this look! Leggings from BCBG, on sale today on hautelook.  Here's my personal invitation link: Here

4. Tall Boots: I'm not a fan of Uggs, it's way too comfy for my styles, if that makes sense. I prefer leather or suede boots for a sharper, stylish look.  How hot are these Pour la victoire boots!?  I would wear these with the outfit above with those leggings!

I hope you find these tips helpful to help you transition into the winter.

Breaking Dawn Part I Countdown Begins!

People who knows me well will tell you that I'm the biggest vampire fan ever!   I'm obsessed with everything vampire! Especially True Blood and the Twilight series!  I can't say I love the Twilight series for its literature, but I love it for the vampire culture.  I also loveee Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.  She was mediocre in Twilight but I can tell she really improved her acting skills through the series.  She is just absolutely beautiful and I love her fashion style and make-up!  She's also very camera-shy and hates it when her fans scream hysterically.  Kristen appears to be a very normal girl despite all her fame, which is what I love about her.
They're an actual couple in real life and their chemistry is just amazing.

Breaking Dawn release is NOVEMBER 18!!! I predict Edward and Bella's wedding will be bigger than Kim Kardashian's.  Her dress will be the next biggest thing and every teenager will want it.  Their sex scene had to be toned-down to make it PG 13 appropriate.  There are barely any details in the book, except that she wakes up with bruises all over. It should be good ;)

Oh by the way, as much as I love Jacob and his rock hard abs, I'm still team Edward!!  However, in True Blood, I'm a huge fan of Alcide ;)
Please comment below about Twilight/vampire-related if you're as excited about this release as I am!

Signature Staple Items

I'm a big fan of purchasing one staple piece each season and just wearing it until its YOUR signature staple piece.  It's an idea you might want to consider too!  It's a great conversation starter and it'll give people a sense of your personal style.  Here are some must-have pieces celebrities chose to rock:

white top, coral pants- love Eva's bold look!

For Selina, it's her Sam Edelman gray booties and that aweseom sachel!
I'm a huge fan of Selina Gomez!  She's one of the most well behaved Disney star in my opinion, what a great role model and fashion inspiration!

For me this season, I'm obsessed with my LAMB purse:

It's my go-to bag for everywhere I go! I love the soft gray leather and the boho-y laid back look that can easily also be the center of attention in any outfit!

Share your favorite staple pieces in your wardrobe!

Supplements?

One of my biggest hair problems is that it's too dry and not silky enough. Is that the case for your clients as well? Could it be that my hair is just naturally dry? Am I horrible at maintaining my hair? I always ask these questions to my stylist but my stylist told me honestly that there is not much she can do to provide me with longterm results.  I definitely think my hair condition has improved a lot since I've started using Armada-style products.  I'm in love with the grapefruit scented shampoo.
In addition to deep conditioning with all natural products, I believe the key to healthy hair is your diet. Afterall, you are what you eat right? I'm currently considering taking supplements, perhaps omega-3's and vitamins.  Do you have any suggestions?

How will you celebrate Halloween?

As a stylist, you can have so much fun at your workplace!  As long as your costume isn't too outrageous, it's a great way to show off your creativity and style!  For Halloween, I hate spending too much on costumes that everyone else might be wearing.  Instead I like to buy dresses and play with hair and makeup.  That way, I can still wear the dress at another occasion!

Here are some example:

This metallic dress would make a perfect warrior/goddess dress! From Zara.

With this leopard print dress, and cat-eye eyeliner you can easily become a sexy felion!

Any black dress would make a sultry vampire or an evil witch!!

Don't forget to buy candies for local trick or treaters!  Now is a great time to let your clients know that you will be giving out treats this Halloween!  And remember to make the candies extra special so that those little monsters can remember you!

Beyonce: One Sexy Momma

How gorgeous is Beyonce?!  One of my favorite topics are celeb moms and moms-to-be and I think Beyonce's prego style is worth a whole blog post! I found this picture of Kate Spade's blog. She is rocking the Tuxedo Hill Nadine satchel, which I absolutely adore!  Buy here.

By the way, you don't need to be pregnant to get her glow!  To get the same radiant skin as Beyonce, try using our PIDA, armada-style gentle skin exfoliator.

How to instantly appear more friendly

Hello!

Today I would like to offer a tip on how to instantly boost up your salon's overall friendliness.  There are only a few salons that I went into that actually offer refreshments and snacks.  Do you own a coffee maker or do you have an awesome apple cider recipe? Why not make your client's wait a bit more pleasant by offering them a snack or a homemade recipe?  Do you have a favorite herbal tea?  A cultural snack that you would love to share?  It does not cost that much and it's a great way to create a relaxing, friendly environment.  It's also a start conversation starter:

"This beverage is delicious!  Is this your personal recipe?"

Clients can start conversations with each other and when a newcomer walks in, it's a great sign to see customers chatting with each other!  How friendly and warm a salon's environment is can really affect your customer retention!

Hope that helps!  Want to know some of my favorite beverages?  Comment below and I would love to do a blogpost on my home recipes!

My Rant on Customer Service

Today I would like to blog about customer service.  Many salons certainly take pride in their excellent customer services, but let me be the judge of that.

You, stylists have tough work days, you're constantly on their feet, working on client after client.  It's tough to always have a friendly, professional composure when you are always dealing with difficult clients and face the risk of an unsatisfied customer.  Which is why you take it out on a poor girl like me who gives you a follow up call.

A stylist's aura and mood can really affect the atmosphere of the salon and the way clients perceive you.  Even something as simple as how you're handling a phonecall may reveal much about your attitude, your professionalism and how passionate you are at doing your job.  I believe stylists should thank me for calling them because I am prodiving them with information about new products that they would not have known about otherwise.  It's up to the stylists to order or not but new knowledge should always be appreciated.  You need to be aware of new products and services.  I've spoken to a stylist who claims to have been in the industry for decades and have never heard of a Japanese Straightening treatment, and spoke to me as if I had made that whole thing up to trick her into buying something.  She probably have her share of hanging up on people.

I am not a customer, but I am certainly human and can judge your professionalism based on how you're speaking to me.  You are opened for business, and I am making a business related phone call, which was agreed on when you first contacted us to requested a sample kit.  I've had my share of making follow-up calls to salons and I am quite disappointed in the way stylist handle unknown callers.  I may not be calling for an appointment but a potential client would be completely turned off by a rude: "Who's speaking" or "Not interested" and "Take me off your calling list" as a greeting. And before you decide to hang up on a customer rep from a company who sent you a FREE generous sized sample kit, your clients could be watching and listening to your every word.  Your professionalism can come off as very fake if you reveal that nasty side.  And women are great at sensing this kind of nastiness.

This blog post may be harsh.  I am not criticizing anyone in particular, this is based on my experience so far at my first job ever.  I do not take any rude comments personally but I do know that I will not be visiting that salon if I ever come across it.

I personally let all my cold callers finish what they have to say before I kindly reject, unless it's an automated system.  I acheive the same results without having a random person hating my guts.  People are just doing their job and of all professions, stylists should be the most understanding.

Awesome Halloween Tutorials

Hi everyone!

Today I would like to share with you some Halloween tutorials from my favorite youtube beauty gurus!
I love this time of year because it's so festive, fun and I love seeing creativity in fashion, makeup and costumes!

Jen of frmheadtotoe.com is my favorite blogger and youtube beauty guru!  She's so talented, kind-hearted, beautiful and so down to earth!  She's so different because she comes from a minority background, Korean American and she happens to be only 4'10"!  Watch this video to see how talented she is with make-up!  Here is another one of her videos, from last year's Halloween:

She also does a lot of K-pop inspired looks!  Everyone is obsessed with Korean pop-culture nowadays!

Here is a tutorial from another favorite beauty guru of mine, the infamous Michelle Phan:

I'm planning to be a vampire this year so this look will definitely give me new ideas on how I want to do my make-up!  Expect sexy vamped up Margaret this Halloween! Comment below! I would love to hear your Halloween ideas!  What are you reccommending to your clients?

Getting Cold...

You can really begin to feel the chill in the air! But that does not stop NYC from being fashion forward!  You'll see boots and booties walking fast-paced on those cement runways and flowy skirts paired with layered tops!  I love fall because it's cold enough to look cute bundled up and not too cold to still wear dresses and skirts!

Femme Rocker Style
Loving this leather jacket from Asos.
I love how the rocker leather is paired with a more feminine, watercolored printed blouse.

Nude Colors with details & accessories

Absolutely loving the scallopped, layered skirt.  Also found on asos.com.  Could be paired with tights!
I love nude color outfits, you can really dress it up with accessories, shoes, tights, bags.

Leopard Prints!
How adorable are these leopard print keds for days you want to go casual?
Great paired with skinny jeans or leggings with a skirt!

The Bootie

These House of Harlow booties are so hot! That's all I can say really.
I have muscular muscular legs so it's hard for me to find tall boots or even mid calf boots that fit me so I like booties!  Could be found on karmaloop.com

I think fall is the season you really want to splurge on!  You sweat so much in your summer clothes that you don't really want to invest a huge amount of money in.  Fall clothes will also make winter clothes too!  I love splurging on jackets and comfy sweaters.  However, I like to find great deals on my boots and shoes.

DIY haircut?!

Vanessa Hudgens
Pefect example of why people shouldn't cut their own hair.  This is probably worst than her naked picture leaks! She look so much older!  It does not match her face shape at all!

I absolutely cannot stand how her hair is growing back! What do you guys think?

My Mini Hair Extension

I walked by the San Genarro Festival in New York City's Little Italy and I got a mini hair extension!  It was for the Breast Cancer Awareness donation hence the pink.  My sister and I both got one and we're loving it! It was a trend this past summer but since it's always trending to rock something for a good cause =)  Here is a picture:

Really love it!

What do you guys think?

Painless way to break into your shoes

I always assume a stylist is more than a hair expert, I expect her to be a fashion and beauty thesaurus!  Giving tips is the way to go to make you a reliable stylists.  It's also important to demonstrate that you're detail oriented and you know your clients' sense of style.  For example, if you see a female client walk into your salon with high heels, you may know how much pain she's in or how much pain she's gone through to break those shoes in.  Do you have any advice for her?  Here's Michelle Phan's ingenius tip!

What are some of your personal tips??

Missoni For Target

I love learning about fashion updates and new trends!  Missoni, in collaboration with Target created an absolutely gorgeous clothing and furniture line at great affordable prices!  Target's website went down because of all this craziness!  People were lining up at Target since 4am in the morning for Missioni's bike.  Sharing local news with your clients is a great way to get them coming back to you!

Not the most stylish, but I'm certainly loving my hair despite the extremely humid evening last night!

Fashion Night Out Tonight!!

Fashion Night Out is Tonight!  This year's would be my first FNO ever and I'm super excited to meet celebrities and snag free stuff!  Yesterday, I spotted beautiful models walking down streets of New York City and on the trains and I am super envious of their gorgeous outfits and beautiful hair.

Find me in Sephora on Times Square!  I'm planning to meet the infamous, beautiful and talented Michelle Phan!  I'm also stoked about meeting Pam the evil, sexy vampire from True Blood, who will also be at a Sephora on Times Square to help promote the True Blood Palette.  I actually do want the palette!  The whole point of FNO is to boost the economy by encouraging consumers to have fun shopping!  I'm also meeting friends on Union Square's DSW and hopefully, I'll get there on time for their free foldable flats gift with any purchase!

What events are happening in your neighborhood? Share share share by commenting!  I love finding out about events because work is exhausting and I'd like to look forward to experiencing new things at the end of a long day!

Jewelry Tip

Fashion jewelry make great accessories! One negative aspect: It'll rust within days. Fingers will turn blue and green.

A great tip to offer any stylish, accessory loving client is to let them know how to take care of their jewelry!

Coat the inner rims of rings to prevent oxidation!

Like jewelry, hair is an accessory. Give your client a little chemistry lesson by going into how oxidation also takes place in hair, causing hairs to look dull and dried. Many drugstore shampoos, including Pantene, coat the hair with silicone, like a top coat nail polish, making hair appear shiny and no repair is really performed in the hair. Which is why it is necessary to make frequent visits to your salon because your products can really help moisturize the hair and repair it on a molecular level.

Tip & Celebrity Obsession: Kristen Stewart

I think it's important for stylists to be updated with celebrities' styles and gossips.  Having conversations about celebrities' hair, make- up and popular culture is a great way to bond with your clients.  Find out what's trending on youtube and twitter because you wouldn't want to be caught speechless in a conversation about celebrity moms or weddings.  There's a great beauty community on the web and it'll be great if you can introduce some of your favorite beauty bloggers to your clients.  A great way to demonstrate your excellent taste is through your reccommendations.

Here's a great topic:  Kristen Stewart looks absolutely amazing in her photoshoot with W Magazine's Sept. issue!  There are lots of tutorials on how to achieve her makeup look on youtube.  Her hair is absolutely stunning as well!  I originally thought she was very plain looking and boring like her character on Twilight but I'm beginning to love her mysterious, gothic, vibe. What do you think?

Online Shopping!

Hello!

Today I would like to introduce some of my favorite shopping websites to you because Armada will begin to take online orders very soon!!

I'm a shopalohlic and I love finding great deals online, especially when it comes to make-up, clothing and jewelry.  I love shopping on Ideeli and Hautelook because they sell designer makeup, hair products/tools, clothing and jewelry with a huge discount, usually 50-75% off.  I like to buy high end makeup from these websites because I wouldn't feel bad if I don't like it.  I hate itsy bitsy samples.

The only catch is you have to be quick!  They have new sales of different brands everyday and their quanities are quite limited so you have to snag it quick!  You only have 15 minutes to check out, or else someone else can add it to their cart.  Make-up brands include Urban Decay, Vincent Longo, NYX, Rock and Republic, and many more.  They have a lot of popular brands of shoes, purses and clothing as well.  I always look forward to their blow-out sales every few weeks! Everything is ridiculously discounted!

For jewelry, I personally like Jewelmint because Cher Coulter and Kate Bosworth personalize jewelry selections for you every month.  You take a style quiz when you join, not sure how accurate that is, but they get to know your style based on what you like and dislike as you shop.  I've received many compliments whenever I wear jewelry from their line.  They're 29.99 for any piece on their website and they give 50% off your first purchase.  They're better quality than what you can find at forever21 and it's very well designed. Packaging is absolutely amazing.  I keep all the boxes.  Please comment if you would like me to do a collective haul for all my jewelmint purchases.

Comment and let me know what are your favorite shopping places online!

What I'm Up To At Work

So many salons are phoning in to order our sample kit that I couldn't find a spare moment to blog!  We are getting ready for our next shipment of samples.  We've been preparing fliers and order request forms for more than a week and I really hope all the hard work pays off.  I'm so excited to ship out these sample kits because I'm sure stylists will love it as much as I do!  And since they're hair experts, I cannot wait for them to call me back and let me know how it turned out on themselves or on their clients!  I love success stories and happy experiences.  I can hardly contain myself when I hear good news!  As a swimmer, I had damaged hair for more than half my life and I'm so happy to see improvements with Armada-style products.  I no longer feel sad and disappointed when I run my fingers through my hair.  I came across a stylist who was a bit relunctant to try our products when I was making up follow-up calls.  She called me back yesterday, RAVING about the products and was so glad I talked her into trying it out!  All I can say is: I told you so!

I also had the experience of stylists loving our products so much that they call in just to give us new tips and ideas on how to use our own products!  After understanding the chemistry of M-32 through our newsletters, they experimented on their own to incorporate our products better in chemical processes such as coloring and perms.  It really makes me proud of what I'm doing to help salons and their clients!

One frustration:   I do not understand why stylists request a sample and do not try it!  They leave it lying around for weeks!  If they will not use it, I wish they would ship it to my home address!  I would love to have hair care companies send me free things!  Perhaps, pushy sales people and cold callers automatons have given us a bad rep because we do not make sales call at all!  We genuinely only want to know how's everything going with our products and there is no obligation for salons to order anything.  We believe sampling is the best way to get you to believe that our products really works!

1. Red Hair
Emma Stone's red hair makes her gray-blue eyes stand out!

2. Cute messy ponytail!
So cute and playful!

3. Shiny, wavy locks!

Wavy curls are so flirty and romantic.

Fall Trends

1. Lacey tops-- Lacey tops was really in spring 2011!  Lace is fun, flirty and feminine!  It's also a very easy cover up for tank tops.  Be on a lookout for tops with patches of lace!  Shades of black, gray, navy and burgundy are perfect for a sexy fall look. Here is a Twilight-inspired top that I adore:
Top from M&Co. Pair these with leggings and some heeled booties!

2. Fun tights and leggings
I have a collection of awesomes leggings and tights that I purchased in Japan!  I love lacey rose patterned tights and cutt out leggings!  They're great for showing some legs for the fall and you can wear them under oversized t-shirts or tunics.

This one is from david lerner!  Sooo sexy without showing too much skin!

3. loose fitting sweatery (crop) top over a bandage skirt
Crop tops were huge this summer but it doesn't mean you can't wear them in the fall!  Wear a high wasted skirt or even dress with your crop tops and show off your legs instead!
